Tell us two truths and a lie about yourself.
- my bra size is 38DDD.
- i have 4 brothers.
- i graduated high school at 16.
What was your version of teenage rebellion?
Brought to you by the movie Georgia Rule.
On my eighteenth birthday, I got my tongue pierced, despite the fact that I knew my mother would disapprove. At that point, i was halfway through college and hadn't done much of anything. I wound up taking it our 4 days later (on Christmas) because the bar was too long, but i think it was completely worth it.
What are you going to do with your tax return?
Submitted by KB.
probably going to buy a couch. i've spent about $80 on bookcases to get the crap off the floor in the living room, so a couch is the next logical step.

What were you doing one year ago today?

working at a job i hated; hunting on craigslist for a new one. my employer had taken his ridiculous-ness to a whole new level when he announced that all the other employees would be given a salary, while i'd still be paid hourly. this wouldn't have been a problem if i wasn't doing the EXACT same work as they were, they were actually COMING to work, and he hadn't MANDATED that i work a certain number of overtime hours before i was compensated. it was also around this time that he distributed copies of the employee handbook. i'd read over it and while i thought there were a number of parts that didn't apply to our particular business (he'd copied it, almost verbatim, from the handbook of our largest client), i WOULD HAVE agreed to sign it, if he'd amended certain typographical errors. for instance, when it came to our number of sick days, the word FIVE was printed, but the number "3" was in parentheses. i'd emailed and spoken to him on a number of occasions about having that cleared up (because i KNEW i was going to use AT LEAST three, so i wanted to know if five was what i was entitled to), and while he said he'd get back to me, he never did.
i'm not one to sign things blindly, so when he later decided that "i should work somewhere that was less demanding" and cited my refusal to sign off on the handbook, i chuckled and pointed out that i was trying to save him from legal wrangling in the future.
i LOVE the job i'm at now, even though it has its moments where i just want to choke some bitches out. my old boss instant messaged me a few weeks ago, asking if i had the password for a router i'd setup for another one of our clients. i took my time replying to the IM while i was working there, i created a password database (really a simple spreadsheet, but useful, nonetheless) which i offered to share with everyone (so they wouldn't have to continually ask customers for passwords). they declined on the basis that it was MY JOB to retain such things. when i was hastily terminated, i deleted it, along with everything else i'd worked on and created while i was there. in addition, all the cds, surge protectors, and peripherals i had in my car/at my house were 'converted' for my personal use. i was told never to contact the company (with its 5 employees) or anyone within it ever again, so i didn't feel bad in the least.
What's on your "do before I die" list?
Submitted by Caroline.
nothing outlandish, really; i want for the simple things in life.
i've known far too many people to die before getting to graduate college, get married, have kids, own a house...all that stuff. i'm a total nurturer, so i'm gonna flip my sh** when i become a mom, wife, partner, whatever.
i am not nearly as adventurous as i once thought, but that's mostly because things seem to HAPPEN without me really doing much to plan for them. i'm gonna get my passport to be prepared for travel and i'm overcoming my fear of heights...that covers just about everything besides swimming with sharks and living in another country for a year, but my anxiety wouldn't allow me to be away from family that long, so that's pretty much off the list.
What's the most drastic change you've ever made to your appearance?
Submitted by Laurie.
When I broke up with my ex (for the second, maybe THIRD time), i chopped my hair off. I went from hair below my shoulder blades to having it just below my ear. My rationale was that I wanted to start fresh with some hair he hadn't run his fingers through. Since then, it's growing, but it's not quite back to where it was.
Oh, but wait! There are also my body modifications! The first one (a tongue piercing), I got the day I turned 18, because, well, I didn't have anything else to do. The second, a tattoo of the baby phat cat and the kanji symbol for beauty, was an interesting experience. The artist asked if he could drink while he worked (um, no), then waited until he was DONE to tell me how much it'd cost me. I lied and told him I only had a few bucks and he thought I was cute, so he let me go for $40. My next two tats, "bitch" on my hip and "truth" on my back were done mostly out of frustration, but the most recent one is the most meaningful. It's a cluster of three small stars on the right side of my stomach. Two of the stars are just outlines, but the third is filled in. The significance of them is two-fold. One, I wanted a reminder of my miscarriage, but at the same time, something that would look towards the future. So, the filled-in star represents my graduation from college. I got it during our final round of convocations before the big day. (Actually, i got it IMMEDIATELY before a convocation or something; I mean, I had my cap and gown in the trunk and the bandage still on while I was sitting in the church.) The other two stars represent marriage and childbirth, since those are two more achievements I'd like to reach in my lifetime...
What is your favorite scent?
Submitted by Erinen.
I guess this could be taken to mean anything from "fresh cut grass" to "the way my bed smells after I've made love", but I'm gonna focus on things that are available at your local retail outlet...
Classically, ckBe by calvin klein. It was the first "major" purchase i remember making. (mind you, i never received an allowance, so making the 60 bucks it cost to get this was a major undertaking!) it's a unisex scent that's a little more INTERESTING than ckOne. i still have that original bottle; i remember it was a gift set that came with a scented candle...that's where i found my fascination with wax play (but that's another story for another vox blog...)
Anyway, these days, I've been spritzing japanese cherry blossom and mango mandarin body splashes from bath and body works. The japanese cherry blossom eau de toilette is even more wonderful smelling than the spritz, so that's reserved for special occasions. I love the smell of it because it reminds me of springtime here in DC. Not that the air smells all fruity or anything, but people flock to the Tidal Basin to see the blossom at the peak of their bloom every year, and despite my allergy, I find that completely fascinating.
